Gilroy's Brewery is an award-winning craft brewery, pub, and restaurant at Rivonia Crossing in Johannesburg. Hannes Greyling founded the venue in 2004 with one idea: brew the beer he wanted to drink, and pour it in a place that felt like home. Twenty years later, that idea is still the whole plan.

In 2004, Hannes opened Gilroy's in Rivonia Crossing with a small brew kit, a shorter food menu, and a clearer mission than most. The beer would be made on-site, the burgers would be taken seriously, and the door would be open to whoever walked through it. It worked. The first regulars are still regulars.

Two decades on, Gilroy's has grown into Sandton's flagship craft pub — four signature ales on rotation, a kitchen that doesn't cut corners, live music every weekend, and a beer garden that's won awards three years running.

In 2025 the Sandton Tribune voted Gilroy's the Best Craft Pub in Sandton. The same year TripAdvisor ranked the venue the #2 Pub in Sandton. Earlier Gilroy beers — brewed by Stephen Gilroy, who founded the original Gilroy's Brewery in 2000 — featured in Jeffery Deaver's 2011 James Bond novel Carte Blanche.

Gilroy's lives at Rivonia Crossing Shopping Centre, 5 Achter Road, Paulshof in Johannesburg. The entrance is on Achter Road. The beer garden runs under majestic trees. The Old School Pub is exactly what it sounds like.

Four signature ales, all handcrafted, all natural, all preservative-free, all brewed on-site: Gilroy Traditional (Red Irish Ale), Gilroy Lager (European premium), Gilroy Favourite (Golden Pale Ale with fynbos honey), and Gilroy Serious (Dark Rich Ale, James Bond's drink of choice in Carte Blanche).

Live music every weekend, often into the week. Quiz night on Tuesdays. Beer pong on Wednesdays. Big-screen sport whenever the sport is on. Private events under the trees. The Members Club for the regulars who've made the place their own. And, on any given night, the best burger in Rivonia.
